Real Bodies: DANCE ON ENSEMBLE_Deborah Hay

“Tenacity of Space” Premiere

As part of the series Real Bodies

Fri 24.03. 20:00 + Sat 25.03. 20:00 + Sun 26.03. 20:00

With Deborah Hay, one of the most renowned American choreographers could be won for a commissioned work with the five dancers of DANCE ON ENSEMBLE. Debora Hay remains among the most radical and influential postmodern artists, and she is also one of the founding members of the Judson Dance Theater that first came up in the 1960s. To this day, the artist, born in 1941, influences the development of the international dance and performance scene. In her works, she does not only question dance and choreography practice, she also focusses on a differentiated perception of one’s own body and the reflection of learned patterns of perceptions, from both dancers as well as from the audience. “Tenacity of Space”, too, was created from the basic idea of “enlarging your perspective”, according to Deborah Hay: “In my work with DANCE ON, I developed a choreography for an ensemble in which the artistic focus shifts towards more and more subtle forms of awareness, unconventional approach and revelation.”
DANCE ON ENSEMBLE already guested at tanzhaus nrw last October, showing different choreographies by William Forsythe or Rabih Mroué, for example. The starting point for the ensemble, home to six exceptional dance personalities, is formed by the idea to make the immense experience, the artistic potential and the individual stage presence of artists 40+ visible. At the same time, questions on the individual experience of age or social appreciation of older people also come into focus.

Transgender people do not conform to the expectations of the gender role assigned to them at birth. They feel they are in the “wrong body” and often experience a sense of dislocation.
ID-clash focuses on different concepts for living and stages of transformation of transgender persons. Two hijras, representatives of the “third gender” culture from Bangladesh, encounter with three transgender people from Europe and Latin America.time:
